Transylvania is famous from its medieval, walled cities, located here by Saxon settlers. One of them, Cluj – Napoca, is now an important cultural and administrative centre, but its well preserved old city remain atmosphere of Middle Ages.
Our tour will start on a Avram Iancu Square, where stands a monument of this national hero. Later, passing by an Opera House, will get to the oldest remainder of a city wall – Tailor’s Bastion. On the same square stand also Greek Catholic Cathedral. After short walk through the streets lined by historical monuments – churches of different denominations, as a sign of cultural mix present in Cluj-Napoca, the University and other academies buildings, palaces of noble citizens – we get to the Piata Unirii, the main square of the city, dominated by Gothic St. Michael church. On the square lies also Banffy Palace, masterpiece of baroque architecture, which house Museum of National Art. The tour will finish on a opposite side of the river, on a citadel hill, from where you would see panorama of all city.
