Poienari and Transfagarasan Highway from Targu Mures

Over 30% of Romanian surface is covered by Carpathian Mountains, the highest of which are Fagaras Mountains (over 2,500 m high). In 1970s Nicolae Ceausescu, communist leader, ordered to build a route going strictly through this mountains.
We would like to invite you on an amazing tour through the most picturesque views in Romania. During 90 kilometers long ride you would admire Moldoveanu Peak, and second highest – Negoiu, with their sharp stone crests, and green valleys long way down.
Carpathian Mountains offer you not only amazing view, they are also strongly connected with Dracula legends. Not far from Transfagarasan, on the southern side, stands Poienari castle, the real fortress of Vlad Tepes. Better known Bran Castle may be better preserved, but only after climbing 1480 steps to the Poienari ruins, you would feel authentic atmosphere of Dracula’s abode. It is said, that castle is haunted.
Going back to Targu Mures, we will stop in Balea Lake chalet, at the highest point of Transfagarasan Route.
